Ipamorelin is a five-residue sequence, Aib-His-D-2-Nal-D-Phe-Lys-NH2, with a molecular weight of 711.88. It opens with Aib, a non-standard residue, and carries two D-form amino acids, giving a molecule that is largely synthetic in construction rather than a copy of anything natural.
Its defining characteristic in the literature is selectivity. Earlier compounds in its family were reported to affect several endocrine outputs at once; Ipamorelin is studied because its described activity is narrower, which makes it a cleaner tool for isolating one pathway.
That selectivity is the usual reason a study chooses it over a broader-acting relative, and it is also why it appears so often as the second component in paired preparations.
