About GHRP-6

GHRP-6 is a six-residue synthetic peptide, His-D-Trp-Ala-Trp-D-Phe-Lys, with a molecular weight of 841.0. Two of its residues are D-amino acids, the mirror-image form, which is deliberate: D-residues resist the enzymes that cleave ordinary L-peptides.
It belongs to the growth hormone releasing peptide family, developed before the natural ligand of the receptor it acts on had been identified. Ghrelin was characterised later, which makes GHRP-6 an unusual case of a synthetic compound preceding discovery of the endogenous signal.
Research using it concerns GHS-R1a receptor activation and appetite-related signalling pathways in controlled models.
