About Semax

Semax takes the ACTH(4-10) fragment, Met-Glu-His-Phe-Pro-Gly-Pro, and appends a short tail at the carboxyl end. Its molecular weight is 813.9.
The parent fragment comes from adrenocorticotropic hormone but, cut at those positions, it no longer carries the hormone’s principal described endocrine role. That separation is deliberate: the fragment is studied for properties attributed to a different part of the molecule’s behaviour.
Published work on it concerns neurotrophic factor expression and monoamine regulation in animal models. Most of the early literature originates in Russia, where the compound was developed, which shapes what is and is not available in English-language sources.

Research background
Semax is a synthetic peptide of seven amino acids, Met-Glu-His-Phe-Pro-Gly-Pro. A 1993 paper from a Moscow institute describes it as a synthetic analogue of a fragment of adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH).
