About MOTS-cPremixedPen

The MOTS-c pre-mixed pen in Canada is supplied by Horizon Peptides as a 60 mg research pen, available singly or in 3-pen and 5-pen packs. MOTS-c is a mitochondrial-derived peptide studied in laboratory models of metabolic signalling.

MOTS-c is unusual in origin: it is encoded not in the cell nucleus but in mitochondrial DNA, making it one of a small group of mitochondrial-derived peptides. Its sequence is Met-Arg-Trp-Glu-Met-Glu-Val-Val-Arg-Ser-Gln-Arg, with a molecular weight of 1213.32.

That origin is the main reason it attracts research attention. Peptides encoded by the mitochondrial genome were not widely recognised until relatively recently, and MOTS-c is among the most studied examples, which makes it a common starting point for laboratories entering that field.

The pen supplies the peptide already in solution at a fixed concentration, which suits laboratories running repeated comparisons where preparation consistency matters. Where a study instead needs to set its own concentration, the lyophilized vial is the more suitable format.

At 60 mg the pen carries a larger quantity than either vial size, which lends itself to extended runs rather than single experiments.

Key research areas

  • Mitochondrial-derived peptide research
  • Metabolic and glucose-handling signalling models
  • Mitochondrial genome expression studies
  • Pre-prepared solution stability research
  • Comparative work against lyophilized presentations

Research areas describe how this material appears in published laboratory work. They are not claims about any effect in people or animals.

Other MOTS-c formats and related research peptides

MOTS-c is also stocked as MOTS-c lyophilized vials in 10 mg and 40 mg. Related metabolic research material includes 5-Amino-1MQ and NAD+.

Compound data describes the molecule, not a batch. It comes from the sources listed on the MOTS-c Research page.

Research background

MOTS-c is a 16-residue peptide whose coding sequence sits inside a mitochondrial gene for ribosomal RNA; Lee and colleagues described it in 2015. Most of the experimental work cited on this page comes from cultured cells and mice.

MOTS-c Research What the published literature reports, with every source linked

Testing and documents

Batch documents are published on the Lab Results page as they become available, searchable by product or batch.

Lab Results

What a certificate of analysis shows

  • Identity

Mass spectrometry checks the measured molecular mass against the expected one: is this the right molecule.

  • Purity

HPLC separates a sample and reports the target as a share of everything detected.

  • Batch

A certificate describes one batch. The batch on the document should match the one you are asking about.

  • Date and analyst

The document should say who carried out the analysis and when.

Not every batch has a published document. Where one exists, it is listed; this page says nothing about results.
