MT-2(MelanotanII)

MT-2, also catalogued as Melanotan II, in Canada is supplied by Horizon Peptides as a lyophilized powder in sealed 10 mg research vials, available singly or in 3-vial and 10-vial packs. MT-2 is a synthetic cyclic melanocortin analogue used in receptor research.

MT-2 is a cyclic peptide, Ac-Nle-cyclo[Asp-His-D-Phe-Arg-Trp-Lys]-OH, at 1025.2. The square brackets in that notation mark the ring: a bond joins two side chains, closing part of the backbone into a loop rather than leaving it as an open chain.

Constraining a peptide into a ring restricts the shapes it can adopt. For receptor research that is valuable, because a molecule locked into fewer conformations gives more interpretable binding data than a flexible chain that samples many.

It binds across several melanocortin receptor subtypes rather than selecting sharply between them, which is precisely why it is used as a broad reference compound in the field.
